Bob to Fran

February 27, 1958

Bob sealed this letter's envelope with his gold RLZ monogram, the same seal that marks this site. Look for it on the last page.

The letter, transcribed

Ad astra per aspera, Cave canem, et Cogito, ergo sum. February 27, 1958 A.D. Dear Fran, How about that cool motto at the top? I am glad you liked my long letter. I am just naturally windy. By a few necessary items to liven up a party I meant some things that can't be discussed through the mail. I'll tell you this summer. I still haven't gotten around to getting some film for my camera so until I loosen up my tight wallet you'll have to hang on to that old picture. Besides I just got a haircut and I look like a peeled orange. If you have one sister and one brother how do you account for the other three members of the family. I just went skiing last week end with some of the guys and I goofed on a turn. I have been limping around ever since. Actually skiing is a lot of fun and you are lucky to get skis. The ski hills in New England are much better than they are here. Just don't get scared and you will do O.K. I better shut up though. Here I am talking like an expert and I have a twisted ankle. Whitefish Bay is the largest village in the U. S. with a population of about 20,000 and may become a town. My civics teach gave Bill the same kind of lecture. I'll tell you all about that this summer too. We just got a black Ford convertible with white-walls. Boy! is it neat. I like it better than our station-wagon. My father just had an operation on his tongue today and he can't talk very well. My mom also got her contact lenses today. I don't see how she can stand them. Love, Bob
